Losing a test match away to Bangladesh is not a sackable offence, particularly when it was only last winter England won in South Africa. Doubt we will seen Finn and Ballance play in India except due to injuries.

Yes indeed

Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
Boycott took over for two Tests while Brearley was injured and then went back into the ranks when Brearley was fit.

Of course when Mike Denness was made captain ahead of him he refused to play.
Coincidentally this was when England were destroyed by Lillee & Thomson in 1974/5 & then faced the ferocious Windies during the HOT summer of 1976. Possibly the two most intimidating series in the history of the game.

Didn't Boycott step down as captain but stay in the team?

Sven Roeder 2:38 Sun Oct 30
Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
So you want him to step down and remain in the team?
How do you imagine that will help?

Cook strikes me as a bit of a SULKER so I imagine he will retire as Captain.
Probably with Anderson after the 2017/18 Ashes if I had to guess when.

Have said before that Australia , S Africa and England (apart from playing at Durham in May) are the only nations that attempt to prepare pitches that give all the skills of the game a fair chance rather than for their own personal advantage.
Bangladesh have more confidence in their players so instead of preparing damage limitation roads are now trying to follow the example of the pitches Sri Lanka prepared for Australia and those India have used to win 13 of their last 14 home tests and draw the other.

This doesn't look good for the next 5 tests.

I think most of the major nations outside of Asia would have been in major trouble here.

Fair play to Bangladesh. They were brave enough to prepare pitches that suited them and were difficult for us.

It is probably the best thing that could of happened looking forward to India. A few of those left handers need to go and the batsmen have to take the fight to the bowlers.

A West Ham kind of defeat?

So in about 10 days time Captain Root tosses the coin & Hameed and Duckett walk out to face Ashwin on a sand pit?
Good luck with that

Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
In fairness to ansari, he had what 3 dropped catches this morning? Abysmal though 8 players were with bat, that's unacceptable and easily gave them an extra 50 runs

Cook did use some proper bizarre tactics though - starting with Finn and gifting them a great start, not using stokes enough poor reviews.

On spinners purges you can't mitigate for a lot of what happens with the call and often it's as much luck as anything as to whether a wicket falls off an unplayable delivery. But we really don't seem to be able to cope with it at all. The first test could easily have gone the other way and we couldn't have had too many complaints.

The thing is we don't have a very good spinner of our own either. Moeen has some ability but is too expensive - we don't have anyone who can do what Swann used to and either bowl to take wickets or bowl to frustrate and keep the score down so the other bowler could bowl he wicket taking balls when the batsmen got frustrated. In a weird role reversal, stokes ended up being the man to do that job.

Regardless though we are an exciting team to watch in a sort of keegan at Newcastle way - you never know when we will capitulate and yet we're also weirdly equally capable of mammoth 7th wicket stands or taking 4 or 5 wickets for very few runs so our tests are at least never dull!

We're fucked in India though

You do know the captain isn't a selector right?

Sven Roeder 1:32 Sun Oct 30
Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
So you blame the Captain?
And want to sack him as he becomes England's most capped player and highest ever Test run scorer?
After ONE bad result

Sven when its to shit like that yes

Where have i said to sack the coach

Sven Roeder 1:22 Sun Oct 30
Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
So one bad result means the sack?
Blimey
England have two set batsmen in their top 5 at the moment in Cook & Root & are off to India.
Definitely time to dump one and change the coach

Dreadful batting.

Ballance and Finn can fuck off.

Bairstow and Root need to wake up.

Ansari isn't good enough and Batty is too old.

Re: 2nd Test : Bangladesh v England at Dhakar
Step down?
He has the Ashes and has won on the last away series in India and S Africa.
Has any England captain had that record in living memory?
